OMG, a friend and I actually planned a trip (1.5 hrs each way!) to Worthy Burger because it is so fun and delicious! We split an order of truffle Parmesan fries and the house made pickle platter and then each had a salad topped with the turkey and duck confit burger and a glass of the locally produced kombucha. WOW. WOW. WOW. We sat outside in their screened in patio and it was lovely. Very hip, very popular place, and people from all over the world are finding it somehow. All that for about $25 including tax and tip! Slightly hard to find but totally worth the effort, TONS of free parking in the parking lot.

6 stars Fresh local ingredients in skilled hands presented at reasonable prices. $6 for a grassfed local burger and I opted for local blue cheese. It came dripping with yellow butterfat and has forever elevated what I expect blue cheese to be. $4 for the homemade pickle plate... This time it was cauliflower, green tomatoe and green beans all handled in different subtle spices. Fries are big enough to share. By far one of the best fancy burger joints around.

Stumbled across this place (thanks to Google Maps) while on a road trip. A little out of the way - but well worth this stop! We actually went again on our trip home! The burgers are amazing... cooked so there's pink in the middle... the fresh mozzarella is FRESH mozzarella! Grilled mushrooms are very well cooked... just wonderful taste! A friend asked for tomatoes on their burger and the answer was "no - they're not ready yet!"... I love how everything is super fresh - and if it can't be sourced locally, it's not on the menu. Chocolate peanut butter cookies for dessert are great - so yummy and warm even! Beer selection is awesome... oohhh - and the homemade sauces are devine! My fav was the pesto mayo. Even the ketchup is homemade! The winner by far though - is the parm truffle french fries. Some of the best fries I've ever had! Anytime in the future when I'll be remotely close to this place - I'll be making a point to stop in for burger, fries and beer!

This place is phenomenal. Great range of beers with a strong focus on Vermont. Excellent burgers. Friendly staff. Chill vibes. Lovely small-town location. I would go out of my way to grab a meal here.

Visited today, I really wish they were closer (3hr round trip) I had the best burger in my life here today. Awesome atmosphere, friendly staff, but mostly I loved that they didn't have any TVs or music blasting. It was totally worth the trip.

I came here on a Saturday night with a large group of friends. Coming from the Hanover area, it was a bit of a trek. After crossing the train tracks to find a rustic looking building, I walked inside and to my surprise it was a hipster burger joint with a large beer selection and an interesting menu. It was approximately 8/9PM and it wasn't too packed. There was its fair share of law students and a mixture of an older crowd as well sitting at the bar enjoying some delicious beers on tap. They have Old Rasputin (and imperial stout) on nitro. So I got the classic worthy burger with blue cheese, mushrooms, and onions. Each topping is a $1 and the burger starts at 6.50 which is reasonable. I will say that their burgers are moist and the meat is fresh, they rely on the additional ingredients to flavor the burger but all the their ingredients are locally sourced, meaning... Vermont cheese! Damn! That cheese was so good. Blue cheese and beef you can't beat. Next comes the Parmesan truffle fries. The Parmesan was great, it was strong which worked well. I couldn't taste the truffle, but the fries had a different taste which I'm taking to believe is the beef tallow they are fried in that other reviews mention. Overall, it's a great place to try.

The burgers were pretty fabulous. Not many places will do a true medium-rare burger, and even fewer will make it as tasty as this!

Yes, The Worthy Burger is all you've heard it is and more. Several beer options, delicious food and a great atmosphere. They offer a large variety of "extras" to add to your burger. I opted for cheddar and pickled habanero pineapple which was delicious but there was hardly any on my burger. Biggest downside is the wait- tonight we waited for 20+ minutes in line then 60+ for our food. Although we were starving by the time we got the food, it was well worth the wait! We left fat and happy

Really great veggie burger but I have to ask: If you're a place that offers a vegan option, why-- OH WHY--would you only offer one side which is fries fried in beef tallow? I don't get it. At least have cole slaw or something.

  • JY C.

I love this place..but you must go during "off" peak times or else you are stuck in a ridiculously long line. The flavored ketchups and mayo for fries is awesome, though I wish they had non-beef tallow regular fries for those of us who don't eat land animals. Their veggie burger and fish burgers are great ( I like fish better ). Friends always rave about the burgers !

Very refreshing atmosphere and experience!! My husband begged to drive 2 hrs to try Worthy, and truly that it was. The set up is all an adventure, as Rainbow Road is not simple to find lol- The counter is for ordering food and drink and you best find a seat to claim as they are settled in an small, old train-stop building on the tracks. Hilarious moment when the train screamed by in which all locals just know its time to "WOOWOO!!!!" at the top of their lungs haha they cheer when a new brew is tapped as well, in this case tonight was Hill Farmstead Abner :) I had the salmon/kale burger and hubby had the classic grass-fed beef with cheddar and bacon. We shared a large beet and chevre salad and the truffle parmesean fries and had oodles of beer to choose from, served in generous goblet glasses. I'm now enjoying homemade pumpkin pie they made from scratch yesterday (after fire grilling the pumpkins I was told) and am wondering when we can make the excuse to brave the drive again which I hope is ASAP.

Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had. The flames from a wood fire tickle the local grass fed beef patty until it's medium rare to medium. Top with any combination of locally sourced ingredients like carmelized onions, roasted kale, cheddar, or any mix of many others. On top of that add spicy or standard mayo or catsup. And don't forget to share some hand cut fries. They are the best!

Everything it was supposed to be. Hidden. Great burgers. Great vibe. Deep fried bacon insane. Beers great. Only dig is that seats at tables are kid-sized. Stick to seats at the bar.

In all honesty, I'm sure the food and drinks here must be fantastic, based on the other reviewers' inputs. I, personally, have to underline clearly for those who wish to undertake this arduous task of obtaining food here: eat before you get here. I was here with a friend, who actually passed out after we waited for 2.5 hrs for 2 Worthy Burgers. Alas, I had to take her home, so I couldn't comment on the quality of the food. However, I can certainly say that the quality of the customer service is pretty terrible. And the worst part is when you inquire about wait, you are met with disdain and anger. Perhaps, next time, I'll bring a book.

I'll be dreaming about this place. Stopped while driving through Vermont at this adorable, little eatery. Phenomenal burgers and great selection of craft beer. Also, great little patio to relax and drink on. The whole place feels like summer.

We've been hearing about this place for the last year nonstop from colleagues and friends and now we know why!! I had the Turducky Burger (no cheese; lettuce and onion) with Parmesan Fries. This is now my favorite burger! Perfect combination - flavor, texture, portion,... everything! My bf had the Worthy Burger and though he raved about it, when was allowed to try my Turducky, he wished he'd gotten the same, claiming that the Turducky was way better than even his boasted about WB! Oh and let's not forget the hand-cut parm fries! Not greasy! How'd they do that??? It's a little off the beaten path in a quaint sleepy Vermont town, but it's more than WORTHY of the trip!!

  • Robin S.

I love that this place uses butter lettuce instead of iceberg or romaine. It just elevates a great burger that was grilled to perfection. We also had the pickle plate. The curry carrots were sweet and my favorite.

  • Jeff T.

Food was beautiful. I like my burger with a little of fat it in it, there was none. Buns were very dry. French Fry's were good, but in very small pieces. Atmosphere was nice. Very Vermontish.

  • William F.

This place does burgers to perfection. Medium rare is the default. The menu is simple. A few cheese options and bacon. There are certainly no gimmicks here. The beer list is unbelievable and so are the beef tallow fries and homemade pickles. The price is also about what you'd pay for a burger at any chain restaurant so Worthy Burger is a complete steal. They do take credit cards now.

Absolutely amazing. We just happened to wander off I-89 to find this gem. Well worth it. Excellent beer selection and the burgers and fries are amazing. I had a Worthy Burger with bacon, caramelized onions and grilled mushrooms... plus an add-on of pickles. Don't forget to ask for the pickles! They pickle from a family recipe. The staff is super knowledgeable and efficient. Excellent experience all around. BONUS: The town of South Royalton is super cute and idyllic. It offered a great display for the Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you, Yelp. Thank you, Kara G. Thank you, other side of the tracks. Worthy Burger is entirely wonderful. Of the four patties on the stark menu, she ordered the classic, cooked til pink grass-fed beef, while I had eyes for the Turducky ($6.50) - a crazy flavorful blend of pasture-raised turkey and duck confit seared and sealed over white hot Vermont hardwood. Topped with L, T, O and a hefty dollop of Cremont goat/cow/cream cheese (only $1 and well worth it), this was a masterpiece on its own. Adding a heaping basket of sea salted fries cooked in beef tallow ($6) just iced that birthday cake. And it was my birthday! Overhearing the conversation, one of the servers bought me a local beer, poured professionally in to their namesake Worthy Glass, which holds every brew and on-tap wine in the house. With varying volumes for syrahs, lagers and high-gravity beers, how they do that? I guessed it, and you can too; just read between the lines. I loved everything about Worthy Burger. Know three things before you step inside: 1) it's cash only, 2) its adjoining is parking lot is present, if hidden, from the prominent square spots just across the tracks, and 3) order whatever - it's undeniably delicious.

After moving to the west coast, I was excited to experience the abundance of burger joints here; everything from chains like In-N-Out to the specialty places that charge $20 for their artisanal, locally-sourced, lovingly hand-crafted wares. Well, I've tried them all, and I have yet to find anything that really excites me; nothing that I'd rate more than 3.x stars. Worthy Burger has ruined all other burgers for me. The burgers are perfectly thick (medium rare actually means something here), juicy in the best way, and nicely seasoned and charred. They really do melt in your mouth. The brioche buns are just right; soft but with enough fortitude and flavor to contain and augment their precious contents. There's an excellent rotating selection of local cheeses, going beyond the standard cheddars to include Gruyère and Brie. Other toppings are generous, fresh, and flavorful. The home-made ketchup and pickles in particular are fantastic; I wish I could buy them in bulk when I visit, to take them back with me. They have other food as well, and what I'm told is a great selection of beers. But I come here for one thing, and that is the burgers, which all others are now compared against.

  • Jeff M.

Yes, this is one of the best burger joints I have ever been to. Yes, I've given it the almighty five stars of perfection. Yes, I still have some minor "beefs" that I wanted to get off my chest about Cow Heaven. Two things from their website that irked me about their "Worthy difference". The first is that they are proud of their counter service which cuts down on labor costs. While it is true that I've never been waited on or left a tip behind at a table unless I was sitting at the bar and tipping there, I wouldn't exactly call it a brag that they are saving peanuts at $2.13/hr and cutting down on the available jobs in South Royalton because of it. I've been here on a busy Thursday night when the after work crowd starts to roll in and the line just to order can approach 15 minutes. I'd MUCH rather pay $6.50 (vs. $6.00 now) for a burger to cover the costs of a waiter/waitress that would take my order faster than the way it is set up now. This also runs counter intuitive to the next issue I have with them. They also don't accept credit cards, come on....it's no longer 1974!. So it takes 15 minutes to get through a line at a counter while the business is worried about saving 10 seconds on a card transaction? Granted, there is an ATM on site but I absolutely hate-hate-hate cash, despise it with a passion. It's dirty, can be stolen easily and when a place is cash only, it makes me wonder if they are hiding some sales from the IRS. I am also on an expense account for work which means if I can't pay with my corporate card, I am fronting that money until I am reimbursed. How is this impacting your business? Well, I've been a handful of times now while working in town for about a month. IF they took cards, my visits would almost be double what they have been so far. So you're basically throwing money down the drain because some of us are turned off by your cash only philosophy. Hell, you're a hipster joint....look into the idea of accepting bitcoins like some other entrepreneurs in Vermont have already done. A quick QR reader scan from a smartphone would be FASTER than a cash transaction. Alright, rants over. You come for the cow and then realize repeat visits cater to your liking of homemade pickles (and cauliflower?! SCORE!) and truffle french fries. I love MOST of the philosophies of Worthy, everything from cooking over the local hardwood (it's always a mix of different types, I asked personally) to procuring meats from local farmers. These are hipster ideals I can get behind. And then, my god....the beer selection. I'm making the Homer Simpson face as I type this. From upstate NY, down to PA and of course all of the best microbrews VT has to offer, they are here and you'll never be bored by the always rotating selections. IPA's are by far my favorite and there are always at least 2-3 on tap to try and have been different almost every week. The burger is downright magical although I would like it if you could have it cooked to your liking. I've never been asked but maybe that is an option. The way the smoke from the wood seeps into the beautiful blend of bovine muscle, they've got it perfected. The buns are also made close by at King Arthur Flour HQ which helps put the entire experience over the top. I usually get mushrooms added but will be venturing into the other accouterments. Free basil mayo added right before your take that first bite is simply, divine. You've been warned it gets busy and you've also been warned to empty your piggy bank if you go and decide to have a few brews and burgers with friends. It certainly won't cost you an arm and a leg in the end, anyway. Two beers and a burger with some toppings will set you back at about $25 total.

They say that you'll find the best places located in the middle of nowhere. I definitely agree with that opinion because Worthy Burger is one of those places. Everything is hand made, including the ketchup. Looked like they had a great selection of beer. I'd definitely give this place a try. Just make sure that your burger has some pink in the middle because mine didn't.

Probably the best burger I've ever had... And reasonable prices too. Great service, good menu options and the wait was not bad at all. Worth the trip if you're anywhere in the area!

Made the trek up to South Royalton from Hanover on a recent Sunday afternoon and was not disappointed! An old unassuming barn-type building tucked away on a back road behind town center. Order at the bar. Cash only. Awesome selection of beers on tap. Went with the worthy burger with cheddar cheese and a fried green tomato (omgeeeeeee). Truffle fries (my jam). Decided to test out just about all of the self-serve dipping sauces (all delish). This place is the least pretentious burger place I've been to, but they serve a mighty fine burger. Yum. Lots of burger topping options, add as many as you want. All burgers are cooked to a pink center, but the waitress taking our order confirmed this was OK before tabbing us out. Mine ended up being a little more on the medium side, but it was still pretty tasty. Sat on the deck out back and had a very pleasant meal. Overall a great trip and worth the 20 minute drive.

Amazing!!! This place is so great. I have nothing bad to say about them. The beer list is very varied and tasty. If your sitting at the bar you can watch them cook your burger. It also helps when it is not crowded. A very friendly and knowledgeable staff make this place a new favorite of mine.

Best veggie and beef burgers ever. Well cooked French fries with sea salt and skins. Farm to table venue. Freshly cooked as you wait. Recommend the cheddar and blue cheese. Nice selection of local micro- brewery. Run don't walk to this place. Local hidden gem.

This is an awesome place to get a wood fire flame broiled hamburger and a cold beer. Great bar and great atmosphere but it always seems to be busy.

Great burgers as you want them. Lots of topping choices. An extensive craft beer selection on tap! Upon arrival you're greeted by someone behind the bar who explains how things work. When you're not sure what beer to pick, the bar staff are quick to give you tastes of numerous beers based on what you tell them. The burgers are tall, but medium sized meat underneath. I tried a worthy with goat cheese, caramelized onions and bacon. It was fabulous! A large basket of fries was good for two. A very casual and compact seating area leads to conversation amongst tables. I plan to return when in the area.

Really wonderful experience, almost worth the 3 hours drive to find this hidden gem (to be fair, I do abhor driving). This establishment is located directly adjacent to a railroad track, and once you settle in, you'll find yourself breathing in the wonderful fumes of delicious meats (and faux-meat patties) grilling right in front of the customers. The buns are freshly made from the staff and are light glazed with an unknown glistening agent (butter or oil) that makes the burgers look just that much sexier. My only beef, haha, couldn't resist, is the do-it-yourself burger can get subtly expensive. I opted for the special lamb burger, with roasted red peppers and an amazing chevre blend. The burger was on the smaller and drier side, and I had wished there was more cheese on the burger, but when the perfect bite encompasses all of the goodies, it was fantastic. The unique fry sauces were also quite interesting, and I think they really shouldn't have charged for the pickled vegetables. Overall, wonderful burgers, home-made buns and a great selection of beer and you can't get your very own Worthy glass as a souvenir. Food: 4 star Price: 4 star Ambiance: 4 stars (but mostly because of the painting in the men's room) Service: 5 stars - really friendly folks

Great beer and used to have good burgers. ...but I'm writing this review at 9:40 pm on a Tuesday after getting in line at 7pm and ordering at 7:40 No food in sight yet! When asked if we were getting close we were informed "this isn't a McDonalds"... Nice service and customer service... In the end the burger was cooked until it was a briquette. Very disappointed. I've been here a dozen times but I won't be going back.

Felt like we were going to the middle of nowhere, but so glad we stumbled across the place. One of, if not the, best burgers I've had in my life. My dad kept saying"I am not worthy for this burger" and that "this is the burger the gods eat." His statements are true. Super cute place with lots of great local brews and farm-to-table ingredients. Burgers are delicious, fries are delicious (try the truffle ones), and the pickle plate is amazing. Random pickled veggies and they are great! Reminiscent of the spicy pickled carrots you find in Southern California Mexican food. I will definitely be returning to this place anytime I travel to Vermont!

Great spot. Exceptional burgers, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and most importantly, terrific beer list with local focus. Cash-only bothers me nothing whatsoever. Eccentric, local flavor only adds to the ambience. Highly recommended.

Great burgers (the best, perhaps!). Great draft beer list. On 4/5 visits everything has been perfect. Last visit they screwed up. Waited 35 minutes for a burger, then it came out with a refrigerator-cold rectangle of cheese stiffly hovering above the (still delicious) burger. I can forgive one slip-up, given the delicious burgers and charming atmosphere.

Contrary to previous reviews, CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED, as well as cash. Saturday early evening, stopped in at 6pm, no lines/no waiting/plenty of places to sit. Building is funky and small; an old railroad station I suspect as there are tracks right outside. To find the place, trust your GPS device! Careful going under the railroad tracks as the road is narrow. Very good selection of everything to create/design your own great burger; Meats all fresh ground and burgers hand-formed (grass fed beef, turkey and, on this occasion, a special lamb offering), all local cheeses, fresh area grown vegetables. Large board of craft beers and ciders on draught at back of bar; order yours by number. Seating available inside at the bar and/or tables as well as ample seating at tables outside on a seasonal, enclosed patio. Very casual atmosphere; placed order at station near kitchen where you can see the wood-fired massive grill where burgers were being made. Picked up order a few steps to the left of the bar; loaded up on spicey condiments before grabbing a table. Total time from order to readiness no more than 15 minutes. A single Worthy burger with all your additions is a complete meal. Despite that, I ordered the X-Worthy burger: twin-burger, with jalepenos and grilled kale. Even Guy Fieri couldn't get The Hunch going on this one as it had to top being 7-8 inches in height. Burgers are rounder than being flattened; were cooked nicely with pink centers and not bleeding. I suppose you could have them that way if you choose. I did not. Accompanied the burgers with a delicious pickle plate (two types of house-made pickle chips and freshly pickled yellow and green string beans) and an X-Worthy sized order of fries (cooked in beef tallow). Spiced-up ketchup went perfectly with the fries. Oh, yes, and a few beers. Next time I am passing by on RT 89, I will make the stop in South Royalton to burger-up!

A bit off the beaten path, Worthy Burger is truly worth the hassel to drive to South Royalton. Burgers- Amazing! the meat melts on your mouth, the ingredients are quality, the bacon was cooked perfectly. Beer- I had the best chocolate vanilla porter (Ballast Brewery in CA) I have ever had, and that is saying something. It was just superb. They have a great selection of beer, one for every palate, and they seemed to have a lot of local options as well. Service- it's an order-at-the-front type of place and they give you a buzzer for when your food is ready. Super chill, normally friendly people. No complaints. Price- a bit expensive, but definitely worth it. Burgers are around 10-12 fully loaded, beers around 6. Atmosphere- the place is cute, quirky, a little cramped, oftentimes very loud, and there is usually a line to order at the front. Everything a dive burger and beer joint should be. Just great!

For some reason, I keep finding myself in South Royalton, VT. It's only because of Worthy Burger. I don't eat a lot of red meat, so when I do, I want it to be done right. They think through everything here. The atmosphere is excellent, beer list varied and delicious, and the food is unbelievable and consistent. Get fries, and only use their custom mixed condiments. Ask for pickles with your burger (the pickle plate is also good, but they have free ones to go with the burgers on request). I haven't tried one of their non-beef burgers yet, but I plan to branch out on my next visit. Everything is truly worth it.

It's been a few months since I was at Worthy Burger, but I still remember their spicy ketchup (it's delicious!), and their fries. We were there when it was still warm enough to sit outside, so space wasn't too much of an issue, though I can see why it could be in colder months. The food itself was fine. I was expecting a lot more, especially after reading these reviews and hearing from friends. I was also expecting a lot more, in terms of quantity/size. A meal of burger and fries wasn't filling enough! And I have a normal-sized stomach, if not smaller. May be overhyped, but it serves decent food. Will probably not make an effort to eat here again, though I want to try Worthy Kitchen.

The Upper Valley doesn't have a ton of quality food offerings, so by default WB gets a few stars. It also has the potential to get 5 stars. I really want it to. The food is great: Burgers are consistently cooked to perfection (pink) every time. I had a salmon burger there a year ago and it was the best fish burger I've ever had - extremely tender. The Tuna burger has also been very good. The french fries are delicious, cooked in beef tallow. There's usually quite savory appetizers such as a pork poutine rendering that they recently featured, and different desserts such as deep-fried bacon. The beer offerings are eclectic and consistently excellent. Better than anywhere else around. The one thing that keeps me from ranking this place higher is the palpable attitude that has soured my last several outings there. In the beginning it was clear an effort was being made to be overly polite (as should be the case in the service industry) and welcoming. That's the feel a place like this should have. It now seems to consistently have the air of an establishment that is "putting up" with their customers, rather than appreciating them, like a college bar that has terrible service since they know the patrons will come back in a drunken stupor week after week. Off-putting offenses that I've witnessed personally: - Bartender shamelessly rolling her eyes while my party was making a decision on beer options (there was no one else in line and the bar was not busy, and we told her we would need a minute). She then turned to a fellow bartender and mouthed "WTF?" - "Waitstaff" constantly shooing patrons out of the way in a discourteous manner from the narrow area between the bar and tables. - Once, my table was asked if we needed anything and when I handed our empty baskets to the "waitstaff" she told me that WB is "Bus-your-own tables" and she directed me how to discard trash and stack the basket myself. In all fairness, it seems that this has changed judging by my most recent visit. However, at the WB you go to the bar to order food/beverage, go up to get your own food, and apparently bus your own table, so what else could we possibly have needed? (we had been ordering plenty too). If it were one time, I would not take the time to write a review, however it's gotten out of control. The kitchen staff has been nothing but gregarious and pleasant, and hopefully the rest of the staff will return to following their lead. Although it is now fun to play the "Drink whenever an employee rolls their eyes or makes a rude comment" game.

Credit cards are now accepted. That just started a few weeks back. Very good burger, not Three Penny Taproom good, but next level down. Better than average beer selection, it is a beer bar, but I wasn't feeling it today (It might have been spending 24 of the previous 36 hrs drinking Lawson's and Hill's Farmstead) and there were a lot of ambers, browns, and Oktober fest styles which isn't my thing. I can't believe they ran out of cheddar. I really did like the burger, and the homemade pickles, and the fries. I'd probably say 5 stars if I didn't have the crazy good weekend I just had.

My g/f and I stopped in at Worthy Burger. Needless to say, it was amazing. The decor, the vibe, music, the beer, and of course, the burgers were awesome! We ordered our food and then realized they served truffle fries with parm cheese. My g/f went back up to the bar to change the order and the fella was as nice as can be. I wish I lived in the New England states full time as this would be a regular visit once a week.

We went to try the Worthy Burger in South Royalton, VT because of its reputation around the Upper Valley of VT and NH. The big draw of the Worthy Burger, clearly, is its various kinds of craft beers from VT, NH, ME, and other parts of the US. The bar was packed, even by 6 pm, and remained so the entire time we ate. You order food from the bar, reading off of a menu on the wall. The burgers were grilled nicely, but only served with lettuce and a few slices of onion. Extra toppings such as tomato, carmelized onion, bacon, mushrooms, and various cheeses are $1 exta each. For a few carmelized onions and one strip of bacon, it is not worth the exta money. The Turducky burger tasted great, even if I couldn't find the duck confit. My family thought the grass-fed Worthy Burger was just average. The large order of Worthy Fries (cooked in beef tallow) was not large at all, and we mostly received what looked like the tiny scraps of potato left at the bottom of the fryer. The best part of the experience was the different homemade condiments to add to burgers and fries: spicy tomato ketchup, pesto mayo, chipotle mayo, and excellent dill pickles. There were specials of the night and the staff was certainly friendly enough. Overall, it was worth seeing what all the hype was about, but not enough to make a return visit.

A fantastic burger...simple, but well executed! We went because we had heard it was the best burger joint in Vt, and it lived up to the hype. The beer list was an added bonus. I can't wait to go back!

If you are closed for employee appreciation day, please let your customers know on your website or voicemail message before they drive a half hour only to find the restaurant dark and empty. Good food. Good beer. Disappointed that I can't celebrate my birthday here today.

Literally on the other side of the tracks! Worth the trip off I-89. 9 or so miles off the interstate. Drive through South Royalton town center and passed Vermont School of Law. Scenic little NE town. Thankfully found this place on Yelp on the way from a ski trip further up north in VT. I always like to find places a little left-of-center and just a bit off the beaten path. Located in an old rail house alongside the tracks, this cool restaurant/pub is obviously a favorite with locals, as well as skiers & tourists passing through. Their tag line is "A craft beer & burger bar," and it does not disappoint. Rustic, diner-style feel in an old plank floored building. Order off the chalk board menu. Great burgers! Off the farm fresh! The grass fed Worthy Burger with blue cheese & caramelized onions was great. They serve a variety of local cheeses, local grass-fed beef & bacon, and a great selection of local Vermont beers, as well as other CA microbrews. Beer was cold and really smooth! I would have had another if we hadn't needed to get back on the road. Groovy feel with the locals. The poutine burger (you're still fairly close to Canada, eh?) with crispy potato nest and cheese curds sounded great, but I figured maybe not a great idea given I had a 3 hour drive south ahead of me. Though we didn't have dessert, a couple next to us said the deep fried bacon was amazing! Who wouldn't love bacon with more deep fried carbs added on, right?? Deep fried pistachio brownie sounded interesting too. House-made pickle plate and cut fries are great. We all enjoyed our lunch, and I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a fresh and local experience. Note: Listen up turtle-necked ski guy headed back to Boston. It's CASH ONLY, so don't be thinking about whipping out your AMEX, cowboy. Great burger place!!!!!!! For foodies & good beer folks alike.

Really cute place, super awesome that it's an old rail house. Seating is plentiful, though I can see it really filling up during busy lunch hours. The food was really good - I got the Turducky (turkey and duck confit) which was a crazy blend of meat but was pretty moist and flavorful, and the bun was great. They also had a pretty good selection of beer. The fries were pretty phenomenal, and with the different dipping sauces it made them even better. I really like the building the place was set up in - felt very cool just being in there. One of my only beefs with the place is that they don't accept credit card. Even for large transactions. It actually limited us to not be able to have some more drinks at the bar since we weren't carrying around all that much cash at the time. They do have an ATM machine there, but I hate the extra fees. Overall I would definitely come back if I were in the area and wanting a good burger!

This is a typical hipster restaurant. Small menu with fresh ingredients. Great beer selection. The burger was ok. I'm not a big hamburger fan but this was nothing special except the buttery homemade roll they put it on. Turkey burger was much better. Not sure if they actually make it there. Fries were all tiny like it was the bottom of the bag. A burger joint without mustard??? Only catchup and mayo. I think people come here for the atmosphere (if your into it) and the beer. I can't imagine going here for the food only. Staff was friendly but not very attentive.

Went out of my way with my two daughters (ages 12 and 10) on the way home from a visit to family in Burlington, and after a long-ish day of skiing. Read the reviews, and was up for a little adventure. In a nutshell: 1. It's a limited menu. Burgers, fries, some fun sides. Beer, wine, soda. If you want more than that, this isn't your place. But if it's what you want, then this is for you. 2. It was crowded and we walked in the door and into a line, so be prepared to wait (Saturday at 5:30 pm). Everyone was amenable. 2. The bar was huge and there was more on the menu for beer than for burgers, which is great if you don't have to drive 2+ more hours to drive with your kids to get home. (I did, so no sampling for me). 3. One of my daughters got the vegetarian burger - but it was not her taste, so she ended up eating the melted cheese on the yummy (brioche?) roll. The burgers that my older daughter and I got were juicy, and a little pink, as expected. We both had cheddar and carmelized onions - yum. The bottom of the bun was pretty soggy, but the whole thing tasted so good we didn't care. 4. The fries - we got the basic ones - were crisp and delicious. Glad we stuck to the small size, though we could have easily devoured the large. 5. Prices for the burgers were quite reasonable compared to what I'm used to in eastern Mass, especially for grass-fed beef. Burgers start at just under $7, and the local sodas (served in the same glasses as the beer, were $3. I'd like to go back when I can enjoy the extensive beer menu, and try the loaded fries.

The burger was absolutely 5 star, the fries were supreme and the beer list was impressive. Will definitely be returning soon.

I wish I had the metabolism of a 15-year old so I could eat at Worthy Burger every chance I could get! The burgers are perfectly seasoned and so juicy, but it's the slightly sweet buns that complete the experience for me. And the Shelburne Farms cheddar cheese, thickly sliced. Having a ginormous selection of beer also helps! There's really no way you can go wrong - they also have fish burgers and veggie burgers for those who don't eat red meat. Remember to bring your cash!! (There is also an atm, but I'd rather avoid paying fees) Somehow, even when the burgers are only $5.50, my husband and I never spend less than $35 for a meal here. (So worth it though)

15 local brews on tap! Burgers are extremely rare...I'm sure they would cook them another way, but just be aware that saying nothing gets you an almost raw burger.

Once of the best burgers I've had. Really good meat. The atmosphere is also great - energetic music but not overpowering. The ordering line can get long, but it goes quicker than you'd expect.

Did the blue Smurf and the gnome have one too many beers and disappear for a lie down together, shocking thought we know! We visited again on a quiet Tuesday, with enough folks for atmosphere but also one could get a seat on the bar. As ever the beers were delicious and to start with a Worthy burger and fries was wolfed down....the fries are still excellent, the burger still delicious! To follow a Fishwich, this evening with swordfish and a maple slaw topping and again my senses as well as my stomach were well and truly satisfied. Now I'm an open minded lad and the rather portly chef (always a good sign...) suggested I try a 'battered bacon desert'. He reminded me that everything he has suggested I try, I liked...so one was ordered! Batter and bacon.....sounds a bit like deep fried Mars bars that you can get in Scotland fish & chip shops...where they also batter and fry pizza....in my opinion that is really disgusting! However the donut type batter on the crisp bacon with a simple maple syrup glaze was extraordinary and the combination really does work! Yet again the chef excelled!!! So Jason pops in on a visit...he is the less roundy chef part of the owners and says hello. We chat a while and then he notices that his favourite blue Smurf that has looked over the beer taps from a great height for months, is no longer peeping. Over on the other wall the gnome also seems to be missing.....and being a concerned fellow he starts an investigation. It would appear that the gnome took a tumble from which no amount of hospitalisation would he ever recover, thus he has gone to meet the great brew master in the hills. As to his boyhood Smurf (he admitted to having a considerable collection....) that seems to be 'temporarily' absent, well this issue will have to be reported on after my next visit. All I know was that Jason was not a happy camper.....

Fantastic. The only thing I would note is the other reviewer is wrong, they do not have gluten-free buns. The celiac accompanying me was (unusually for her) happy to eat a burger wrapped in a lettuce leaf. They are that good.

I made a yelp account just to post about this place. Went on the way back from the 'Bush. So hidden, delicious beers, and even more delicious burgers. No BS, place is pure fire. Everyone I went with had a worthy burger but I would be very confident about the turkey, fish or veggie options they had as these guys don't mess around. Cash only, but they have an ATM. Beers on tap from Lawson's, HillFarmStead, and even prosecco. Do yourself a favor and stop in.

We were in the mood for burgers and heard good things about WB so we gave it a shot. We each ordered a burger with 2 yr old cheddar, and split a fry and a salad. Everything was very good. The burgers are cooked over a wood fire, so they had a little char. I didn't mind but my girlfriend did. The fries were incredible (cooked in beef fat). 14 taps offered plenty of choices of really good beer. I will be back.

I had the extra worthy burger with caramelized onion, blue cheese, and bacon. The burger was really juicy and tasted amazing. The fries make five guys look like garbage. The beer is all listed on the board with the alcohol content, style, and the brewery that made it. Having all the info on the board makes the beer selection super easy. All the beers are great so it's isn't hard anyway!

Yep, as good as it gets comes across as hype, but the hype here is warranted. In the middle of nowhere Vermont lies the killer, locally sourced burger that I've been looking for for awhile now. Nope, not in Boston..and certainly not in New Hampshire. Set the GPS and treked our way up. In an old train station storage facility, with plenty of Vermont charm. Small room inside, mostly counter stools with some high tops scattered about. If there was ONE thing I could complain about, just to bitch, was the ordering..chalkboard is fine, i get it and see it enough, but there's needs some streamlining. My ADD kicked in overtime trying to figure out how to order and what to order. Keep it simple and it may speed the order time up a bit..we hadn't been there before, so took us a bit to figure it out. The beer menu on the other hand..no problem there (intentional or not). Hill Farmstead on tap?? Yes please. My mistake was thinking these would be smaller patties and did the double, large fries to split and GF got the tur-duck-en burger, as she doesnt partake in my quest for the area's best beef burger. All natural cut/fresh cut fries friend in beef tallow? again..yes please. My LDL is probably off the charts today, but the sacrifices we all make sometimes. The burger was a bit too much to handle, the double was huge. Carmelized onions, slice of tomato and side of mayo, thats it for me. Good beef should stand on it's own, and it does. The hard sear from the quick burning wood is the first thing you'll notice, then the background smoke and the perfect mid-rare center, perfectly seasoned. Nice and dense, not watery and crumbly with the distinct fresh beef flavor. not sure what they use for bun.. but was the low point of near perfection on mine anyways..kind of non descript and didn't hold up to the double, so finished the last bit of the double burger with my fingers. A nice brioche or potato bun would've done it some justice. I don't care for self-service stations for condiments, as they can become a bit unsightly, unsanitary and maybe a bit under-stocked. Not sure how to improve this, but it is what it is. I was shaking the last drops of spicy ketchup and pesto mayo out of sticky bottles, so not my fave set up. Okay, so I bitched twice.. Nate came out and talked with us a bit on the deck and got the scoop on the history and more on their vision here, which is passion about local sourcing. Nice guy and very personable. CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM, and draft beer only..so leave the Bud can drinker at home for this one. There is zero doubt we will be back. Worth the trip.

Last night was our first visit and I already want to repeat the 30 minute drive up there; this place was packed, and I can understand why. The beer selection was superb, and the burgers came out well worth the 45 minute wait. The burgers are cooked perfectly, delicious, and of clearly top quality ingredients. And the bread does the patty justice. Good atmosphere, good beer, good food.

After hearing good things about this place from their master plumber Ben, I had to see what it was about. I was not disappointed. They have an excellent draft beer selection, delicious burgers & fries, and reasonable prices all in a cool rustic but modern New England atmosphere. My only complaint is I found that there was too much empty space at the top of the pints which I would call a short pour. I heard these are illegal in England and that is why there are marks on their glasses to show the minimum pour. Anyways, I still plan to go back and hope for a nice full pour on my next visit.

I dream about this place every night. I dream about that juicy burger... The juice oozing out from the burger... I thought my life would be complete when I moved to DC a few months ago. And I'm telling you. I was wrong. Without Worthy Burger, it's not complete! I'm leaving this review even though I haven't been to Worthy for about 5 months now. As I mentioned above, I live in DC now. But I think I have a right to leave a fond review about this great burger joint because trust me, when I lived in SoRo, I went to Worthy almost every day. So, hear me out. Burger: If you want a local, grass-fed beef burger, Worthy is the place for you. Worthy's burgers are so juicy and flavorful. Also, there is a great selection of cheese that you can add to your burger. Not some cheap American cheese that you can find in the burgers of McDonald's or Shake Shack. My favorite was Cremont... So creamy and it works well with the beef. I absolutely loved the burger buns. They are home-made and if I remember correctly, they are gluten-free. Fries with different dipping sauces: If you like thin, crispy McDonald's-like fries, maybe you will be disappointed at Worthy's. But what's great about Worthy's fries is that they are freshly cut - not processed with some weird chemicals. Also, there are different dipping sauces. My favorite was spicy ketchup and pesto mayo. So delicious! Pickled vegetables: I absolutely loved trying their pickled vegetables. It's hard to find a place where you can try different types of condiments at a burger joint but it's possible in Worthy. Beer: A great beer selection. If you are a fan of some cheap beer that tastes like water, you might find the beer in Worthy pricey. But if you like to enjoy good quality beer with your friends, Worthy is the place for you. I enjoyed sitting down at Worthy with my friends, sipping my beer, waiting for a burger, and listening music at Worthy. Gosh, I miss those good ol' days! Oh, and don't forget to celebrate a 7:10pm-ish train! It should be a Worthy tradition to celebrate that train.

This place was perfect. Incredible beer list. Cool music and vibe in general. I had a worthy burger with caramelized onions pickled jalapeños, and cheddar. It was cooked a perfect medium rare. The fries were awesome, and the house made mayos (we had spicy and pesto) were great.

I have to say WOW. Went to Worthy Burger on on our Anniversary weekend (28th wedding) away to VT and the burger I had was outstanding. Had the grass feed beef with bacon (of course, no brainier) with grilled kimchi and blue cheese. Best I ever had!! We stayed at Woodstock Inn (another no brainier) . Can't wait to go back.

Nothing to do cartwheels over. The cafeteria style/self food pick up lends the experience during busy times to be crowded and a bit discombobulated when trying to view the food menu vs. the beer menu on different walls/bringing your food back to your table. Expect to bob and weave and be bumped by other customers. The staff seemed inviting but not too forthcoming. I ordered a glass of water and never got it and was never told that getting water was self-serve as well. I asked for the dressing on the side and didn't get it on the side. FYI, it is a cash only establishment. Meh.

Maybe I just don't get it... I've tried it twice now and the burgers are not fantastic. They are at best inconsistent - once my burger was dry and mealy, with an unpleasantly fine grind on the meat (like a fast food place) and not flavorful. The second time my burger was better, but still nothing to write home to mom about. If I want a good, well-executed burger in the area, I go to Murphy's on the Green and get the Murph burger. The beer list, however, is exceptional. I personally go here for the beer, and the food is secondary. They have a selection of amazing local beers, but they also have a healthy representation of craft breweries across the country, including the Pacific Northwest - which is really hard to find on tap around here. Go here for the beer and when it goes to your head, get a burger, and you probably won't notice it isn't as great as everyone else says it is on here. This place does not have table service - you place your order at the bar and get a buzzer. This is also the case at their sister restaurant in Woodstock, VT Worthy Kitchen, but they have a much bigger space to hold people waiting for food/tables so it is less annoying. I "get" the concept, but just don't like it. If you get any add-ons (like cheese) to your burger, and get fries and a beer or two, you're spending $20-30+ per person. For that kind of money, I want table service. I just want to shout "THIS IS NOT PANERA and you're not cool or different for copying them" when I am handed that damn buzzer. In my opinion, a big draw of dining out (meaning when you're not just grabbing a quick bite for $10) is the experience - which includes service. Once you place your order and get your buzzer (argh!), then you have to fight to the death for a table. This isn't a big place, and the space is set up awkwardly (the area where you order is galley-style, narrow and on a Friday/Saturday night you cannot help but get up close and personal with the other patrons... like are you happy to see me or is that... never mind ::shudder::). Once your buzzer goes off, it is back into the fray. Last time I went, another guest's sleeve ended up in my burger during pickup (YUM) and my beer got jostled and spilled on my way back to the table. Infuriating. It just doesn't have to be this way if they hired servers. Considering the prices they charge for their food and structural limitations of the space, I find their obsession with this format almost a deal-breaker. But the seductive beer selection has me hooked. Bring cash - they will take your card to hold a tab open for you, but they do not (at least at the point I went) take credit cards to pay. There is an ATM in the restaurant, if you are in a bind.

This place is fantastic. Excellent burgers and fries, top notch selection of Vermont beers, and some fun creative menu items. The deep fried bacon (which is embedded in a sort of doughnut material batter) with maple syrup was a great dessert.

I was shocked to find such a good, juicy, dry aged, beef burger in South Royalton. Like many places that are talked up in the upper valley I figured Worthy Burger would be another let down but thank goodness I was wrong. I have had their beef burger and their special lamb burger and both were very tasty (beef still wins). The meat was perfectly cooked and oozing with juicy goodness. The french fries are also awesome, however if you prefer crispy fries then you might be a little let down. The different ketchup's, mayonnaise, and dressings for your burger and sides are fun to try and also very good. The beer selection is excellent and the atmosphere is very chill. A good place to come with friends or on a date (maybe just not the first one).

This place is aptly named--they do make a worthy burger. This is the second railside dining establishment that I ate at on a recent trip to Vermont, and it was very impressive. They serve burgers and beer primarily, and their selection of both was delicious. My family had the grass fed local beef burgers, but I am not a fan of the traditional burger, so I was more interested in the other three menu options--they were out of the fish by the time we dined (we were there on a Saturday evening, and it was definitely hopping at 6pm, but either they don't make many of them or they are very popular, because sometime between 4 and 6 customers who came before me claimed them all. So I opted for the ground turkey with duck confit burger--very yummy, and the duck prevents it from being as dry as traditional turkey burgers can be--given the attention to detail the establishment has, I would try the veggie burger next time if I miss the fish a second time around. The dise are quite good--the French fries are good, but nothing special. The side salad I had was delicious, with a berry dressing and a mild chevre on baby greens. The pickles are house made and fantastic. We got an appetizer special as well--chicken wings, which we shared a dozen of and could have easily had another round had we not been so full--they were delicious. The beer on tap is remarkable, and this is a definite find.

I read about Worthy Burger in the Valley News, it sounded like these guys had a good idea, and they did! Finally stopped in last week on our way back from a hockey game. Nice beer selection. The menu is fairly simple, obviously for a reason, QUALITY. Best burgers - period. The fries were delishious and the condiments were a big surprise - spicy catsup and the spicy mayo were my favorites. They are cash only, but there is an ATM inside. Worthy Burger is worthy of the name.

You know how, every once in a while, someone has a phenomenal idea, but then they crash and burn when it comes to executing that idea? This place is nothing like that. Worthy Burger is Worthy. Their concept is simple: take an old train station and turn it into a craft beer and burger bar. Use fresh, local ingredients, offer four main dishes, and mix-and-match as you please. You can order a 1) beef burger, 2) fish burger (tonight: swordfish), 3) veggie burger (currants, nuts, deliciousness), or 4) a "turducky" - that's right, duck confit + turkey. You can add to these whatever toppings you choose, including a mushroom medley, kimchi, and/or a variety of local cheeses that they will happily describe to you in great detail. (The sharp, 2-year cheddar will treat you well, I promise!). You can even order a cheese plate if it suits your fancy. The fries are crisp, delicious and meaty - yes, meaty - because instead of oil, they're fried in beef fat. Gimmie gimmie gimmie. You can order a side salad if beefy fries are not your thing... or fill up at the pickle station, or dump four different types of mustard on your tongue. Who am I to judge? Perhaps even more importantly, this joint has FOURTEEN local beers on tap. Fourteen. One-four. The options rotate regularly and include seasonal favorites like Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale. And if your first choice isn't the best choice, go back for another. Try a hearty stout, a crisp Belgian white, or one of the IPAs named after the founder's grand and great-grandfathers (Edward, Ephraim, or - my favorite - Abner). All beers are served in Worthy glasses, which you can purchase for $3. As a friend pointed out, Worthy Burger fills a huge void in the Upper Valley. People are desperate for a place that serves a wide variety of good beer, gourmet burgers that don't break the bank, and a fun place they can visit regularly that offers quality food 'n fixins. This place certainly fits the bill. While they don't serve the *best* burger I've ever had, this place is solid. I hope it finds a good home here.

Just tried this new spot for the first time and was thoroughly impressed. This is not the type of place you expect to find in South Royalton, VT...it's more of a Portland, ME-type joint and provides the best in local ingredients, intense micro-brews, and succulent flavors. What more could you ask for from a burger and beer joint? Fries are cooked in real beef tallow; burgers are topped with fresh, locally-grown ingredients and locally-sourced artisan cheeses; brews are an eclectic and fine-tuned mix of local and national micros. This place is one of my new favorites and I hope the locals support it...we need more places like this in the Upper Valley! Remember, you get what you pay for...so don't go here if you're looking for a fast-food burger. This place serves ultra-tasty, high-quality burgers, has a really cool atmosphere, and an awesome staff who really care about their product. They even let you sample the brews before decided what to drink. It is cash only, so be warned. Maybe that will change if they can sustain their initial success... I know I'll be heading back later this week; this place is awesome!

Well, I live only a block or so down the street from the Worthy Burger and noticed some delicious smells on the air about the time they opened. It took me awhile to make the connection, but once I did I made it a point to stop by and taste their wares. I ordered take out and it was ready in about 10 minutes, which was impressive considering how many customers they had. The atmosphere is appealing and the staff are pleasant. The downside is that they only accept cash and they don't serve hard liquor. Now for the food. I got the worthy burger made with grass fed beef and topped with Cabot cheddar. I'm certainly not a connoisseur when it comes to hamburgers, but it was tasty, and I think they did a fine job. The fries however, were delicious! Easily the best fries I've ever had! They'll definitely be seeing me again. Actually, I'd go back just for the fries!

Good food. Great beer. Lively atmosphere. This place delivers. Don't come here expecting to sit down, be served, and have a slow leisurely meal. This is not the set up. Rather, you go to the bar, submit your order, and are given a vibrating beeper that notifies you when your order is ready. You wait at your seat with your drink and then pick up your food and eat your way to nirvana. The beer selections are great. A few local (and rare) selections, in addition to some of the usual cast of characters in a place like this. The difference is that the menu is thoughtfully selected; there is pretty much a beer of any style available at any time. The food, oh the food. The burgers are perfect. Cooked only one way (a little pink), but that is the way the meat (locally sourced from a responsible farm in Barnard) should be enjoyed. The fries are fresh and cooked to perfection. There is typically a special burger...the night I went it was a lamb-burger with curry...it was fabulous. The atmosphere is filled with locals, which in this case includes a good amount of the law students. I went on a Friday night and it was busy, but in a good way. This place is somewhere I am going to visit over, and over, and over. One of those places you will wish they knew your name...

Having been to The Worthy Burger several times I must say they are consistent. Wonderful beer selection, good burgers with local cheeses and amazing fries. It is a hard to find spot but it is well worth the effort. If you love a great burger and/or beer you must make the effort to get to South Royalton and Be Worthy.

Called to ask some questions about making a reservation. I tried to time my call at a time that they wouldn't be slammed because I understand that these types of questions can be difficult to answer when your time is in high demand. I called at 2:30 PM on a Sunday. The man who answered the phone was incredibly short with me, showed no sign of hospitality whatsoever and his attitude made me feel like I was bothering him by calling. Needless to say, they do not take reservations and I won't be bringing my family here since I wouldn't want to annoy or inconvenience their obviously irritable staff with a large party.

I have had the fortunate experience of being able to visit Worthy Burger on three separate occasions over the past month. This is an amalgamation of all three of my visits. I heartily enjoy Worthy Burger but it hasn't been all bliss. On my first visit the place was packed! I always take this as a good sign, given the amount of stellar Yelp reviews as well I was extremely excited to try a Worthy Burger. I went with the regular burger with the cheddar cheese and had a side of fries. This was by far my most exceptional experience at Worthy Burger (out of the three visits). The atmosphere was great and the outside seating was very nice. I don't mind waiting for food as long as it's worth the wait and it definitely was in this case. My second visit I decided to be a little more adventurous. I tried the Turducky Burger and unlike Damien S. I didn't find it to my extreme delight. The burger had amazing flavor but fell apart too easily. As well I almost immediately started having gastrointestinal problems (nothing too serious but unpleasant nonetheless). The fries were again delicious especially paired with the pesto mayo. This mayo should be enshrined on a high mountain amongst other precious artifacts of the world. I also heard that the pickles are from the owner's grandmother's recipe so that is an added bonus. I don't know if I could justify getting the pickle plate again (it's a little pricey for what you get but the pickles are delicious). On this particular night it was raining quite heavily and the outside seating has a roof so you stay dry but it is intensely loud and very hard to hear anything due to the construction of the roof (it is plexiglass or some such thing, I'm not a builder) which detracted from this visit. On my third excursion to Worthy Burger, I tried the Veal/Sausage burger which was not particularly flavorful. It was not nearly as good as the Turducky or original Worthy Burger which surprised me because even though my body had issues with the Turducky my tastebuds did not. My companion and I also ordered parmesan truffle fries which were delicious! Although they only had a large size when a small certainly would have been ample. I cannot recommend the Veal/Sausage burger even though it pains me to write this, my companion did enjoy their veggie burger which I'm told they make in house. On this visit there was a particularly loud group of Spanish women sitting adjacent to our table who were almost as loud as the pounding rain mentioned in my previous visit! I know the management cannot dictate their clientele but I was not pleased to be seated beside such a boisterous group, especially when I was in need of specific back support and couldn't move to another table. It should be noted that in all my visits the beer has been fantastic. I don't know if Jimmy Carl B. had an off night but I have not found any beverage to be undully warm and the selection is pretty balanced between malty and hoppy though it changes so frequently it may not have been the same when we both visited. The staff is extremely helpful and they compost everything. Go Worthy Burger!

Just had my inaugural visit to the area's newest restaurant and craft beer bar. Worthy Burger, indeed. Fantastic burger -- one of the best I've ever had in my life. Not just the delicious, grass-fed, perfectly cooked beef, but the bread and spicy ketchup and everything else were great. (Grab a lot of extra napkins though!) Didn't even get cheese on it, despite the incredible number of choices. I wanted to savor the meat. Fries were crisp and addictive, too. And then the beer. Really great variety -- guess it changes all the time. Small makers from all across the country. Worth the drive from Woodstock. Already planning my next visit.

it's not cash only...at least not anymore...found this place on a google search, knowing i'd be in the area, oddly i stumbled upon it's sister worthy kitchen about a year ago down in woodstock...anyways, came through as planned on my ride from bethel back to boston on a house search...the woman behind the counter welcomed me and took my order, wish i didn't have to drive so far otherwise would have loved to try some of the many craft beers on tap. the burger took a bit to come but it was a busy saturday lunch time....and it was well worth the wait. a tad pricey but to be expected, this is quality food and i will be back. lots of choices on the menu if you're not a burger or meat person....yummy fries, a tad greasy but still good. located sort of behind a railroad depot, my gps had no problem.

Literally the best burger I have ever had. The meat is so flavorful and juicy. I cannot over exaggerate how amazing this place is. I had the worthy burger with goat cheese and mushrooms. So wonderful! The fries are good and the pickle plate was a nice addition. But the real star is the burger. Unbelievable! They also have a large beer selection. As a tip, they are cash only but there is an atm on site. Not a ton of seating during busy times nor parking, so get there a little early. Also it is counter service and they will hold a tab open for you. Truly the best burger I have ever eaten!

I feel fortunate to be able to stumble to and from Worthy whenever I like. Wonderful beer, I love the changing taps and menu, pastured beef, sustainable fresh fish, friendly service and wonderful atmosphere. Feels like home now, one of my very favorite places.

I'm a total burger lover & I've had them all over the world so when I say this is one of the best it comes after much research. This is awesome! I would compare this to Kovo burger which is the only place I've ever found with deep fried burger! Great atmosphere being in a converted train depot right by tracks. Nice, friendly staff also. Came here by accident but would come back. We had car accident, no one hurt cause car was parked and got hit while we were at breakfast, by Dartmouth U and came back to get car after it was fixed. Jones'in for a burger we ended up here.

Seriously legit burger. This burger could stand its own against any burger anywhere. The meet itself has a great beefy flavor (something that is surprisingly rare in burgers) and is generally cooked pretty close to the wellness you request. Good atmosphere, although small. An awesome staff helps to make this place worth visiting frequently. The rotating beer list is great and a highlight of the place. The fries are nothing to right home about but solid nonetheless. Easily worth the 30 minute drive for me.

We were on vacation in Vermont and prior to leaving I had pinned this restaurant on Pinterest. We decided to take a drive and have lunch there. The food was fantastic. Definitely comes highly recommended. Service was great.

Many friends told me to give Worthy Burger a second chance. Six months after my first visit, I returned on Friday, March 15 and I'm delighted to write that it was excellent. From the staff greeting us, making sure we could find a seat in the completely packed house, to the bar staff, chefs and busser, they worked together to create an enjoyable experience. We will return. Often. The tap list remains the best south of Montpelier. All food was excellent. Burger (double with Jasper Hill Bayley Hazen Blue) was juicy, flavorful, cooked to the requested temperature (rare) and salted appropriately. It's among the very best in Vermont, comparable to the Three Penny Taproom and The Farmhouse Tap & Grill. That night's special, a Shrimp po' boy, was equally great. Prices remain quite low given the quality of the food. South Royalton is lucky to have this place. Congratulations on a fine restaurant.

Oh so worthy are these burgers. So worth the detour from 89. We bought a glass and broke it almost immediately so my only regret is that I didn't buy two.

AWESOME food and beer! We basically had everything on the menu and it was great. It would be nice if they could add a kid's meal and accept credit cards(maybe one of those iPhone attachment things?)

Visited in July with our two kiddos during a vacation to Vermont to pick up our daughter from camp. Recommended by locals and we sure felt like locals as we bellied up to the bar to place our order. The place was bustling, cheerful and housed in a very funky old train station... so cool to see the train roar by right outside the window. Craft beer selection that made it hard to choose, but the burgers here are the stars (of course, with a name like Worthy Burger what do you expect??) Seriously the best we've had. I think the fries are addictive and we could have eaten thousands of them... Keep it up! So excited a new one is opening (opened?) in Woodstock for our next visit!

Best burger I've ever had! Accidentally found this on our way back to Mass from Montreal. If it wasn't so far from home, I would be going there on a weekly basis! This is a must stop if you are anywhere in the Royalton vicinity!

Worthy Burger has a wonderful atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and absolutely delicious food. Atmosphere: Old train station with a very impressive looking, updated, kicthen/bar. Staff: They understand that their model is slightly different from most restaurants and always help out if you have questions about how to order or what's on the menu Food: Every time I go I wish I had ordered more or had more room in my stomach. They really know how to make a burger. 4 Stars because it's cash only, seating can be limited, and the food can be pretty slow.

Worthy of checking out, for sure. Great burgers and beer selection. I especially liked the pickle/condiment bar they have. South Royalton is a cool little town with not much going on, but Worthy Burger is worth the trip.

We were terribly disappointed by the lack of respect we received. We were told it would take 25 minutes to get a veggie burger. We understood that they put your food in in the order it is received. Okay--no problem. About 35 minutes later (after no one came over to explain the long delay) we inquired about the burger. They told us it would be about ten more minutes. Waiting the ten minutes--still no burger and no one came to apologize for the wait. Again, one of our party went to the counter--they told us that they would need our order number to find out about the burger. Frustrated and feeling like our business did not matter, we continued to wait. Finally the buzzer went off and the burger was gotten. It was lukewarm and the bun was burnt. We will not be returning to the unworthy burger.

My experience at Worthy Burger was much better this time! The burger was perfectly cooked and juicy, the bun was delicious and the bacon crispy. I love the spicy mayo that you can slather all over your burger! A huge improvement over my visit last year, right after they opened. My only qualms are related to the pickles (far too much vinegar) and the fries, which were soggy, yet flavorful.

Worthy Burger certainly lived up to all the rave reviews. Burger and fries were great. Sunday afternoon was pretty crowded but there were still seats. In the summer there are often band concerts across the tracks on S.Royalton green. Very nice summer afternoon. The buns are particularly tasty. They get them at a bakery in Quechee.

The great reviews for this place makes me think that the food scene is dead VT. WOW! Really? Is there some sort of spooky group think going on here, or did I just go on an off day? Let's just start with the soda , if you can call it that. A glass of sugar water with hints of vanilla... I could NOT stomach more than a few sips. OK, OK, so they can't make soda. Whatever. Water is free, as the not so friendly cashier points out to me. I go over to the condiment bar to fill my cup and take a sip........ POND water fills my nostrils as the putrid stuff touches my tongue. This is water? Who would drinking this?? OK, OK... so there I nothing to drink here but beer... I hear there is lots of great beer, but I'm driving... so I will just wait eagerly for my AMAZING burger. My boyfriend went up to get the burgers from the counter and they had forgot his onions and my mushrooms... we need to wait 15 mins. OK. no biggie. 15 minutes later I have a COLD side of mushrooms in a plastic cup and he gets a cold side of onions in the same manner... The mushrooms have a terrible odor so I put them aside and take a bite of the THE WORTHY BURGER. I call bull - could have made one better at home! Strike three for me... No, burger, you are not worthy, at least not on the day I went. I truly hope it was just an off day, or else the other reviewers may actually be zombies... it makes no sense.

We love this place! As they say in Massachusetts, the burgers are wicked awesome. The difference is all in the wood-fired grilling of these grass-fed burgers! It separates the Worthy Burger from every other burger we've tasted, including other top notch burgers in Boston. What also separates the Worthy Burger from other great burger joints is its craft beer selection. Here, you will find beers that you've never had, nor can easily get at other places. They are unparalleled in this department, especially for an area devoid of culinary diversity or uniqueness. Equally awesome are the toppings (ie, locally produced kimchi, house-made pickles, spicy ketchup, spicy mayo, and so forth), as well as the rotating selection of local artisan cheeses and desserts, hand-crafted sodas, and kombucha. As if all of this were not enough, their prices cannot be beat!! Just bring cash. They have an ATM inside, but they don't take credit cards. Great for individuals, couples, families, and parties (they also have a dart board!). If you're interested in having them cater your event, call them for that, too! They are beyond worthy!!

The decor is perfect for this kind of joint, and the atmosphere on a Monday night was lively yet low-key. A perfect spot for a drink and some rumination, some casual conversation, and especially some mild inebriation. These guys have some of the best beers you will find outside of a brewery, and they know what they are serving, which is rarer than one might think. GF and I tried a brown ale (VT), Belgian style (ME), a porter (VT), and a pale ale (VT), and each one could have been a feature beer on tap at any of the "finer" restaurants in the upper valley. I couldn't believe how many fries I was compelled to eat, nor the part of me which actually wanted a second burger. This place is that good. A few oddities: that they don't seem to have a soda fountain, water behind the bar, or separate restrooms which could come in handy on a busy weekend night filled with liquid bread. They also, as you will note above, do not take credit cards. I expect this will change at some point when they get their feet underneath them. In the meantime, grab a few 20s from the billfold, and pull up a stool because you will be remembering and hopefully returning to this place for years. Full disclosure: I chatted with the bartenders and they comped me a beer.
